  • I understand, good luck to you dude, you've been a great help for the project during Mys v1.3.x's development. I will see what happens by the time I release Mys v1.3.3 though, you have about then to make a decision.
umm Python. I personally aint sure whether Python or PHP is easier, they both are quite suitable for beginners. I am definitely not the authority to say this since I started off with C++ syntax, which makes subsequent learning in PHP and Java more comfortable. I heard Python is going for fully object oriented transition now, so perhaps its good to look into it?

Well it was indeed a pain to get the user id if given a username, wasnt it? I believe in Mys v1.3.1 I've defined two functions in functions_users.php to convert uid to/from username. In Mys v1.3.2 a Member type object is created for each registered user, so retrieving uid should be a lot easier(although possibly more overhead XD).
I see, so that's why you are more comfortable with PHP and Javascript, both are very flexible programming languages that do not enforce so many built-in rules on programmers. Instead, you can specify your own set of conventions for your own need. PHP is also quite easy for amateurs to get started, Ruby on the other hand may be too difficult for beginners. There's indeed a reason why certain programming languages are more popular than others.

Oh yeah, shes indeed been struggling with that. Right now we do have a problem with Mod/plugin system though. Whenever a new release is available, there's a chance that old plugins become incompatible with it. Another incentive to turn it into object-oriented reusable script Id say. XD

You have a good point. I actually believe CJAX will enable you to write much less code and organize stuff in a neater way. I will play around with it and see what I can get before going any further.
umm this... You are already thinking way up ahead arent you? I am not sure how PHP's development will go, they are indeed adding some really nice features though. The biggest problem with PHP is that it is still at its heart a procedural language with object supports. In fact I am more of a fan of class-based programming languages though, I have considered Java servlet and Ruby at times. NodeJS is the server-side javascript language, isnt it? I was wondering how javascript 2.0 comes along, it was said to have additions like classes and interfaces.

Ah thats so generous of you, must have seen the thread she made? About AJAX, well, I found a new php ajax framework that can be used as third party script similar to ckeditor we already have. It's called CJAX, used by Codeignitor and CakePHP. Unlike xAjax which is pretty much dead, CJAX is actually under active development.
I see, sounds really cool. Must be nice to be able to use multiple programming languages together. I did learn Javascript in summer, and now I've learned quite a bit of Java, but I aint good at using more than one programming languages together. Learning Java does help with OOP though.

Thats really good to know, I bet she sent you PMs asking for supports? I am guessing she cant figure out how to sort adoptables with Mys v1.3.x?
I see, its perfectly fine. I had an internship back in summer and now I am in graduate school, so it's not like I am quite free either. Good luck with your job though, hopefully it works out. I actually thought freelancer jobs are only for those who dont have full-time jobs lol. I understand how busy you are, although it would be nice if you can do some basic stuff here such as answering certain technical questions raised by members.

Well for this script, the development is indeed taking longer than I envisioned back in May. I realize that it is impossible to completely turn this script into object-oriented without a well-defined system overhaul, but this is not gonna take just a few weeks. For this reason I decide to carry out this transition step by step, otherwise you won't see Mys v1.3.2 and future releases for the rest of the year. XD

Throughout Mys v1.3.x's development cycle new classes and objects will be added gradually, hopefully in version v1.4.0 can we have a truly object-oriented script. Not sure if v1.4.0 will achieve a complete separation of business and presentation logic though.

And what is your job about? PHP or other programming languages? Just curious.
Oh btw Fadillzzz, if you can get on Skype someday it would be nicer. Otherwise using PM is not a bad idea.
It's okay dude, take your time and hopefully everything will be just fine. Lemme know when you are ready to get
    Back at coding.

At this point, would you mind checking on the forum everyday and see if you can help with answering some newbies questions? There's no need to overdo yourself when you are still busy. Just post a line or two to describe a possible solution to what they ask. Dont worry about questions that requires extensive programming, just do what you can.
I see, thats so good to know. Cant wait to use the new database class. Lemme know when you are ready to update.
Oh that sounds cool, new version of the database class. Did you fix the prefix problem in join() method? I mean, in the old version you have to pass the database prefix to where_clause. I am definitely interested in how the new class/methods work. Incase you need to show an example of how it works, please post in the Mys v1.3.x thread since you probably cannot write php code in visitor messages.
From my shared hosting account that will expire this Sunday. Looks like they added PHP 5.3.x support back in March, I just never noticed until now. Lots of other well-known hosting services such as hostinggator and go-daddy have made PHP 5.3.x available through config file early this year too, so coding with PHP 5.3.x is not a distant dream for us now.
Hey guess what? Actually lots of webhosts are offering PHP 5.3.x as an option nowadays but most people do not realize it is there.
