I think you could integrate PART of it into the layout, but to make it work totally would require a lot of tedious coding and editing.

Yeah you can, but I'll warn you right now. The bigger the files your page has to load. The slower your pages load. And since this is on a template, you have to be careful what you use, because every page will use that template.
