02 - Climate & Mood

How does the climate effect the mood of the inhabitants living in each area?
  • Woods - The woods are misty, with chilly mornings. Otherwise, it feels very temperate here, and the inhabitants enjoy the tranquility.
  • Harbor - The harbor has cold, unpleasant beaches. While not harsh, and even quite enjoyable during the summer, only the hardy, dedicated fishers call this home all year round. To ignore the worst of the weather, everyone seems to have a great sense of humor.
  • Maple Thicket - During the hottest months, it's much cooler inside the thicket than it is outside of it, making it a nice shady retreat. In winter, the moss covering the trees keeps it's residents comfortably warm while they hibernate. In the fall, everyone here is bustling busily. In the summer, everyone is lazily enjoying themselves.
  • Bay - Warm tides sweep back and forth across the bay. Residents are playful and adventurous. Restless, perhaps?
  • Hills - These hills have crisp air rolling off the mountains, glistening dew on the grass every morning, and a lot of resourceful residents. Only the hardiest things grow here, but there sure is a lot of grass. Residents are laid back but a little defensive.
  • Jungle - Very humid and wet and lush to the brim with green goodness. Half the residents are curious over strangers, the other half are extremely apprehensive and stay mostly hidden. Which isn't difficult.
  • Marsh - Their homes are built out of sticks in the mud, and... their personalities aren't much better. The youngsters are much more friendly than the adults. Sometimes it floods, which is the only force that gets everyone moving at once. Angry bees who notice their honey being stolen can also have that effect.
  • Mangroves - This is tropical, but not exactly paradise. Residents are continuously on the move, collecting things, stashing things, meeting up with family... the heat's made them a little eccentric. At least the rising tide doesn't seem to bother them.
  • Kelp Forest - An underwater zone, with waters pleasant enough to swim in. There's a few pockets that are quite warm, but no real cold spots. The currents are predictable in all seasons except the spring. Residents seem to be effected by the seasons greatly, as the water temperature drives their actions.
  • Plateau - Windy and dry. Those who live here seem quite stoic, whether the weather is hot or whether the weather is cool. It just doesn't seem to bother them.
  • Mountains - Kind of on the rainy side, which sometimes becomes the snowy side. Residents may seem unphased by the weather, but it just leaves them constantly looking a little bit bitter. They're happiest indoors, where it's always warm and dry.
  • Farmland - Well, the climate's great for growing things! These hard workers seem depressed in the winter when there's less to do.
  • Beach - Everyone loves a good beach, and the beach loves the boon that tourism brings. Everyone here seem happy all the time. We're pretty sure some of them are faking it, though?
  • Plains - The climate's not good for growing things, so the locals are brave hunters. Those that aren't so brave take up other hobbies, and they seem very savvy when it comes to knowing the trade value of things.
  • Desert - A desert is a desert. Everyone wavers between serious and bored. They all seem easily irritated, though. Is it the heat?
  • Volcano - Here it's cold. Usually. Unless you're near the lava, then it's warm. Sometimes it even tries to snow, but it melts half way down, and evaporates a fourth of the way down and no one ever gets to see it touch the ground. Fascinating to watch. Here the lava is used to forge jewelry, and everyone takes deep pride in their work.
  • Brambles - It's hot. It's dry. It's also quite dark in the shade of these thousand needles. We're not quite sure who actually lives here, but we're convinced they're not the sort to be trifled with.
